[...] The third podcast I chose is Photography History Summer School, by Bill Jay. Every week he features one or two photographers to discuss their work and their contribution to photography. This is a short podcast, 4-5 minutes, so it could be implemented into classroom and not take up a lot of time. I would use this to familiarize the students with language used in discussing art and photography, at the same time, opening a dialog on a particular area the photographer was from, what was happening during that time period, and the influences this may have made on his/her work. Rex; thanks for posting. Yes; I think at first Saudek looks “romantic” and I suppose in some ways, he is, but what’s really interesting is that sardonic attitude that seems to completely counteract that romantic look and feel that the images have.

Hi Jeff, Thanks for posting this episode. I have always been a fan of Eastern European photographers. They seem to put a different slant on things. I hadn’t come across either of these before. I like them both, particularly Saudek. Some of his images seem to be a bit cynical, particularly “Image of a great man”.
